Hi there folks!
There has been alot of things going on lately, mainly moving. Our main research focus at the moment is the movement. Movement of our space that is. Since we feel that status is one of the greatest achievements amongst men our last move was to move our space to August Palms plats 1, to where we were invited by the kind and generous Malmoe city political and economical elite.
Since this fine opportunity was given to us, we decided to shake our grudges of the past. There are no longer any hard feelings over the trivialities that led to us losing our first space and alot of our equipment – everything is forgotten and forgiven.
We have also been offered a generous number of filing cabinets as a substitute for the keygrinders and other equipment that was taken from us. This is of course totally awesome! We really need to start archiving our research findings and resource (read: internet, equipment) useage statistics, now that we have realized that the trend has come to stay – ISP’s and government agencies are into the technically fascinating areas of both stateful filters and archives.
Since our new home is governmental, from now on there will be a dress code. For those who cannot afford a proper suit, work-attire requests can be filed at the front desk and you will receive the standard issue attire within two weeks.
Also note that we are now part of http://www.malmo.se/fou, so we will keep our previous abbreviation FoU – but want to point out that it is no longer in any way related to “Forskningsavd. of Utkanten”.
You are welcome to apply for documents regarding papers and forms to fill in in order to be part of our weekly four hour tuesday meetings (with one or two five minute coffee breaks). Since we are new to this method of operation, one hour of each tuesday meeting will, for the time being, be loosely dedicated to talking about and studying the bureaucracy and hierarchy of the new organisation. Note that the meetings are sometimes longer as we have to follow protocol.

Den 6/4 kommer vi att hålla en workshop med information kring hur man med enkla och fria medel kan se till att hålla sin vardagskommunikation på Internet säker och utom räckhåll för snokande ögon.
Vi går igenom grundläggande teori om kryptering, vad PGP/GPG-kryptering innebär och hur du skapar din egen nyckel, samt hur man kan använda lättillgänglig teknik för att säkra sin kommunikation åt båda hållen.
Lär dig kommunicera säkert genom följande protokoll:
* IM (MSN, XMPP/Jabber, ICQ, etc.)
* IRC
* E-post
* Sociala medier (Facebook, Twitter etc.)
Vi samlas kl 18:00 och kör igång klockan 19:00 på Kontrapunkt, Västanforsgatan 21.
I helgen var det HC-festival på Utkanten och nånstans där hittade några punkare vad de måste ha trott var en “punkdunk”. Såhär brukar nämligen punkarnas spritflaskor kunna se ut. T-blå är säkert vanligt groggvirke dessutom. Det är inte första gången det är punkspelning och någon försöker dricka av vår etsvätska men, snälla punkare, det är inte speciellt nyttigt att dricka natriumpersulfat. Dessutom är den använd och innehåller kopparsulfat.
Tyvärr förvarar vi ej längre drickbara lösningsmedel på forsken efter det tillslag länskriminalens samlade kompetens genomförde en novemberkväll 2009, då de lade rabarber på vår fina rom. Yarr! =(

Det kanske bör tilläggas att flaskan förvarades i ett stängt skåp, luckan är trög dock antagligen inte låst, samt att utrymmet var off limits under festivalen.
Local cultural festival Möllevångsfestivalen is running on its fifth year. Their IT person’s moved to Stockholm, so Forskningsavdelningen stepped up to the task of dusting the cobwebs off their web presence.
Var med och skapa festivalen — Möllevångsfestivalen är den folkliga kulturens plattform, ett öppet forum för folket att uttrycka sig med kulturen som redskap. Alla lokala artister, konstnärer, kreatörer och kulturarbetare är välkomna att delta. Var med och skapa en folkfest där gränsen mellan skapare och betraktare suddas ut och vi blir alla medskapare till en festival av folket för folket!

“By maintaining the existing web platform, theming, and editing detailed information we support and enable local culture, while building upon the efforts of other volunteers” hackerspacer Mikael says.
He muses: “When we work for free, we get to choose our tools, and set our own pace. It’s quite liberating. We meet for work parties, and we’re unburdened by organization. We named Olle our contact person for this project, that was it. Now we have CSS code and images for the theme, and a Git repository to share the information. We can get this done while having fun and learning new things.”
